WARNING! SPOILERS BELOW!
Elena’s journey as a vampire has been anything but simple. From falling out of love with Stefan, to falling in love with Damon, to trying to find a cure for her curse, to losing her brother Jeremy, Elena has experienced far too much trauma for one person to handle. In the middle of her nervous breakdown in the last episode, she begged for Damon to make to relieve her of her pain. Much to Stefan’s dismay, Damon used his sire bond to instruct Elena to “turn it off”. In vampire lingo, this means that Elena has shut down any remaining humanity left within her. She no longer feels sympathy, disgust, sadness, or anger. She is merely an empty vessel, out on a path of vampiric destruction. But what does this mean for her friends? How will they react to her numbness? And, what will happen to Mystic Falls when Elena gives in to her lesser evils? Unfortunately, these questions won’t be answered until March 14th, 2013.
